The province of Kilis is in the Southeast Anatolian Region, on the southwest part of the Gaziantep Plateau which stretches between the Hatay-Maraş gulley and the River Euphrates. The province is on the Turkish-Syrian border between latitude 36.0 N and longitude 37.0, this situation placing it in a transition belt between the Mediterranean and Southeast regions.

The average height of the province is 680 metres, with no great variations in altitude among different areas. Kilis was made a province in 1995. It is bordered by Syria to the south, İslahiye to the west and northwest, Gaziantep to the north and northeast, and the counties of Oğuzeli to the east.

The province covers an area of 1,521 km2.  The city of Kilis, situated on the edge of the plateau 5km from the Syrian border, is the provincial capital. Its site on the road between Antep and Aleppo has been settled since ancient times, and the city is a place of narrow, convoluted roads surrounded by orchards and vineyards. |
