One of the oldest cities in the world being after second biggest city of Syria after the capital city Damascus, Aleppo is one of the anciant settlements and oldest cities of the world with a strongand a rich history.

The history of Aleppo Starts around 2250 BC with the name Aleppo first appeared first in “the Epigraphs of Ebla”. According to the myths the city takes her name form the Arabic word “Halab al Shahba” which means “gave out milk”. According to the belief the word “Halab al Shahba” originates from an event where Prophet Abraham gave milk to the citabel stands today.

After it's first discovery in Tell Mardikh area it is believed that the first settlements of this ancient city was established in 2250 BC.

In the planning and the architectural patterns of the streets and bazaars traces of the Hellenistics and Byzantine Civilizations can be seen.

The ancient city of Aleppo is still the oldest inhabited and one of the most imported cities of the world. After the city of Aleppo Centralized by the great empires emerging from the conquest of the Alexander the Great at the Eastern Aabian Region Aleppo became the bridge of the world trade by connecting the east with the west and the north with the Sount and also became a resident for many civilizations.

In the the transformation of the old Aleppo into today's Aleppo Islamic Civilizations especially the Ayyubids and the Memluks have great contributions.

The expansion of the city walls began during the 13th century However, most of the architectural texture that survived until today belongs to tke Ottoman Era(1516 – 1918).

As the city preserved it's history, architectural texture and due to it's historical importance and value The Old Aleppo has benn included into the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1986. The land preserved the rich cultural heritage of the Old City of Aleppo was aimed to enable the economic and social development of the Old City; increase the awareness of the people regarding the actions towards tourism and improvement.
